Maggie, thank you for addressing this and suggesting proceeding in a non biased, inclusive fashion. Any person who wishes, has an option to bow their head in prayer anytime without it becoming a formal introduction to the meeting.

Faith is personal , bit the country belongs to All. What united us is a simple Respect for one another and have guidelines that bind us together . Mission statement , our

Common Values ex. Freedom , rights, liberty common understanding of mankind.

....and turn from their wicked ways... unless we turn away from abortion and homosexuality (etc), He will not heal our land. Ultimately the whole world is guilty of these, so, short of wholesale repentance, all other efforts will be useless. Judgement will fall. We are living in Revelation.

My point is not to remove prayer, but recognize that prayer can come in the form of a statement and song. If people want to bring other practises into the opening of civic meetings, they can do so tactfully.

Smudging is an indigenous practice, similar to the burning of incense in the Hebrew sanctuary and represents prayer to the creator. The shofar is it called to action to awaken the nations to come out of Babylon (confusion).

These things are symbolic.
