Important questions! Thank you for keeping this conversation current. . . most people still don't know any of this, but they're learning, thanks to you, and others, who are spreading the word :-)
But that a science, which distinguishes the criterions of right and wrong; which teaches to establish the one, and prevent, punish, or redress the other; which employs in its theory the noblest faculties of the soul, and exerts in its practice the cardinal virtues of the heart; a science, which is universal in its use and extent, accommodated to each individual, yet comprehending the whole community; that a science like this should have never been deemed unnecessary to be studied in a university, is matter for astonishment and concern. Surely, if it were not before an object of academical knowledge, it was high time to make it so. – Sir William Blackstone - Commentaries on the Laws of England (1765-69) from a lecture given in 1758
A controversy seems to center around local governance and jurisdiction in Canada, especially the influence of external organizations like ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives) and the FCM (Federation of Canadian Municipalities).
Here are a few key tensions raised in that discussion:
Points of Controversy.
Jurisdiction & Authority: There's concern that local councils are not fully exercising their jurisdictional power and may be overstepping or outsourcing decisions to outside entities.
Public Awareness: Several commenters point out that many Canadians aren’t familiar with key organizations like ICLEI or FCM, leading to decisions being made without meaningful public engagement.
Legal Foundations: Commenters reference figures like Sir William Blackstone and historical legal principles, arguing that laws should reflect natural and revealed law not just municipal or government mandates.
Democratic Accountability: There's a strong call to hold local councils accountable, emphasizing that elected officials should represent the people’s interests and not global agendas.
It’s a debate that touches on sovereignty, representation, legal legitimacy, and civic engagement.
Do you think these concerns are warranted in your community too? Or is this more of a nationwide issue you’re observing?
“Man, considered as a creature, must necessarily be subject to the laws of his Creator. It is necessary that he should, in all points, conform to his Makers will.
This will of his Maker is called the Law of Nature. The Law of Nature, dictated by God himself, is superior in obligation to any other.
It is binding over all the globe, in all countries, and at all times. No human laws are of any validity if contrary to this.”
Law of Nature is revealed by God through human reason and conscience.
Revealed Law is found only in scripture.
Municipal Law is man made law, enacted by civil government, is valid only if it conforms to Law of Nature and Revealed Law.
Henry II of England (1133-1189) was a pivotal monarch known for expanding the Anglo-French domains and establishing strong royal administration.
The Papal Bulls "Romanus Pontifex" (1455) and "Inter Caetera" (1493) played significant roles in justifying European colonial expansion and the treatment of indigenous peoples.
The Glorious Revolution (1688 1689) resulted in the deposition of James II and the accession of his daughter Mary II and her husband, William III, prince of Orange and stadholder (governor) of the United Provinces of the Netherlands.

Canadians in cities are so uninformed and apethetic.
Most have never even heard the FCM, let alone ICLEI. Thank you to the smaller comunities who are awake and showing leadership.

Law is:
1. A rule of conduct.
2. Backed by force, not by custom.
3. Based on higher moral authority.
Forms of Law according to Sir William Blackstone.
“Man, considered as a creature, must necessarily be subject to the laws of his Creator. It is necessary that he should, in all points, conform to his Makers will.

Governments' everywhere, and the people under its control, operate under presumption, assumption and force.
